AN INSPIRATIONAL NIGHT OF BEATS, EATS AND TREATS
So if my passion is their target,
tell them to bring a ring of bulls.
Casey Bailey, Dear Birmingham
On the 11th July 2019, The Rambler’s Ball took over Blakesley Hall for a night of beats, eats and treats. Our original plan to host the event outside in the stunning grounds of Blakesley Hall was scuppered when the heavens opened on us, (classic midlands summer, eh). However, we had a contingency plan: with their gorgeous indoor hall, a handful of fairy lights, and a stellar line up, we knew we would be able to bring the sunshine indoors.
With performances from Casey Bailey, Adrian B Earle, and a headline set from Hannah Swings, it truly was a night to remember. Members of the audience came up to the stage and dazzled us with raw and honest performances. Tears shed, belly laughs had, and a delicious curry made by our very own Evolve Manager meant everyone left inspired, emotionally stretched, and well fed.
The concept of the Rambler’s Ball was created by one of our previous employees with a passion for spoken word, he developed the event alongside our PR Company, East Village (big shout out to Hattie D’Souza), and nearly a year to the day, the Rambler’s Ball Takeover marked our 4th successful spoken word poetry night.
Feedback from the evening was astoundingly positive the marriage of an historical venue such as Blakesley Hall with the, at times, painful but always beautiful truth of the poetry was harmonious. We hope that everyone who came enjoyed their night and would encourage you to spread the word about Evolve and The Rambler’s Ball, as nights like this are only possible with the support of the community.
As Casey Bailey, who compered the show, asked who in the audience wasn’t from Birmingham only two shy hands raised. A quick quip from Casey let us know that we were watching the best of Brum, a celebration of local talent and poetry dense with references to the good, the bad and the ugly that our diverse City has to offer.
At Evolve, we’re very proud to call Birmingham home! With the continued support of East Village PR Company, our amazing performers and those who turn up on nights like these, we are in a position to create a platform for local young talent to inspire new poets and create an accepting and supporting environment. Keep an eye out for the next Rambler’s Ball pens at the ready, Brum!
